ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatstroke warning for Karachi as the city continues to experience a severe heatwave, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C and sea breezes halted.
Extreme Heat and No Rain Forecast
According to the PMD, Karachi is currently facing hot and dry weather conditions, with humidity levels peaking at 61% on Wednesday. The absence of cooling sea winds has worsened the oppressive heat, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.
“Karachi is currently experiencing suspended sea breezes, while strong hot and dry winds from the southeast are expected to blow throughout the day at speeds ranging from 25 to 35 kilometres per hour,” a Met department official said. A slight recovery in sea breeze may occur in the evening, but no rainfall is expected in the city.
Public Urged to Take Precautions
Residents have been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM — the hottest period of the day. Citizens are also urged to stay hydrated and wear light clothing to prevent heat exhaustion or stroke.
Heatwave Spreads Across Provinces
The PMD has also reported widespread hot and dry conditions in several other regions. Most areas in Sindh and Balochistan are under similar heat stress, with continued high temperatures forecast for the coming days.
In Punjab, the heat has gripped much of the province, although scattered showers are expected in various districts by evening. Rain is forecast in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Bahawalpur.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also experiencing elevated temperatures, but rainfall is likely in areas such as Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Chitral.
Rain Forecast for Northern Regions
The federal capital, Islamabad, is expected to remain hot and dry during the day, with possible rain, wind, or hailstorms in isolated locations during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, offering some relief from the heat.
The PMD continues to monitor conditions and urges the public to follow weather updates and safety advisories closely.
