ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Hina Arshad Warraich has secured a decisive victory in the PP-52 by-election, held on June 1, 2025, in the Sambrial-Daska region of Sialkot District. With 78,702 votes, Warraich defeated her nearest rival, Fakhir Nishat Ghuman, who garnered 40,037 votes, marking a significant margin of 38,382 votes.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Congratulates Warraich
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended her congratulations to Hina Arshad Warraich, attributing the victory to the public’s trust in the government’s policies. She emphasized that the win underscores the people’s confidence in the PML-N’s leadership and its commitment to public service. Chief Minister Nawaz also highlighted the government’s dedication to meeting the expectations of the Sambrial community and continuing its development agenda under the guidance of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.
Background of the By-Election
The by-election was necessitated by the passing of the former PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Arshad Javed Warraich. Hina Arshad Warraich, his daughter, was nominated as the PML-N candidate, bringing her previous experience as the chairperson of the Sialkot District Council to the forefront. Her candidacy was widely supported within the party and the local community.
Political Context and Opposition Allegations
During the campaign, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) alleged that the Sialkot administration had removed its candidate Raheel Kamran Cheema’s campaign materials, accusing the PML-N of orchestrating these actions. The PPP termed this as a “conspiracy” to undermine their campaign efforts. However, the PML-N has not publicly responded to these allegations.
Implications of the Victory
The resounding victory in PP-52 is seen as a reaffirmation of the PML-N’s political influence in the region and a reflection of the electorate’s approval of the party’s governance. The outcome is expected to bolster the party’s position in the upcoming provincial legislative sessions and enhance its credibility among constituents.
As the newly elected MPA, Hina Arshad Warraich has pledged to continue her father’s legacy of public service and to address the needs and concerns of the Sambrial-Daska constituency. Her victory is anticipated to contribute positively to the ongoing development initiatives in the area.([Dawn][4])
