ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A high-level Pakistani delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is undertaking a critical diplomatic visit to the United States, aiming to present Pakistan’s perspective on recent tensions with India and counter what it describes as New Delhi’s disinformation campaign.
Meetings with UN and U.S. Officials
According to diplomatic sources, the delegation will hold meetings in New York with ambassadors from the five permanent and nine non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Officials from the U.S. government will also be briefed on developments related to cross-border hostilities and regional security.
The delegation is expected to meet with top UN figures, including the Secretary-General and the President of the UN General Assembly. These engagements aim to inform international leadership about Pakistan’s concerns regarding what it terms “Indian aggression” and to highlight its position on recent military developments.
Think Tank Engagements and Outreach
As part of its public diplomacy efforts, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will deliver remarks at a conference hosted by the Middle East Institute, a prominent Washington-based think tank, on June 5. The visit also includes scheduled interactions with Pakistani expatriates, journalists, policy experts, and members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the UN.
Government officials describe the visit as a strategic opportunity to reinforce Pakistan’s diplomatic visibility on the global stage amid escalating tensions in South Asia.
Composition of the Delegation
The nine-member parliamentary team includes senior political and diplomatic figures: Mosaddiq Malik, Senator Sherry Rehman, Khurram Dastgir, Tehmina Janjua, Jalil Abbas Jilani, and Hina Rabbani Khar. Together, the delegation is tasked with articulating Pakistan’s stance and engaging with international stakeholders to address concerns surrounding the conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif constituted the committee in response to the recent escalation, assigning it the role of presenting a unified and fact-based narrative to the global community.
