ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Karachi experienced its 11th earthquake in just 24 hours late Monday night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The tremor, measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale, struck at approximately 11:16 PM, with its epicenter located near Malir at a depth of 10 kilometers. Affected areas included Landhi Sherpao Colony and Quaidabad; however, no injuries or significant damage have been reported.
Earlier in the day, a 3.0 magnitude quake occurred at 8:49 PM, originating about 30 kilometers east of the Defence Housing Authority. Residents across various neighborhoods, including Landhi, Malir, Saudabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Khokhrapar, and Steel Town, reported feeling the tremors. The PMD has issued a warning that mild aftershocks may continue over the next two days.
Seismologists attribute these frequent low-intensity quakes to the active Landhi Fault Region, which, despite its activity, has not been associated with major earthquakes in the past. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to remain vigilant.
