ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A 6.2-magnitude earthquake jolted southwestern Türkiye early Tuesday morning, leaving at least seven people injured and causing widespread alarm across several cities, according to Turkish authorities and regional media.
Early Morning Tremor Prompts Evacuations
The earthquake occurred at approximately 2:17 a.m. local time (03:17 a.m. UAE time), with the tremor felt across parts of Türkiye and neighboring regions. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported the quake’s depth at 75.1 kilometers. While Turkish seismic data pinpointed the epicenter within Türkiye’s southwestern zone, some international seismological agencies placed it closer to the vicinity of Greece’s island region, reporting a shallower depth of around 68 kilometers. Turkish authorities have yet to confirm the discrepancy.
Following the tremor, residents rushed into the streets, fearing aftershocks. Local media aired footage showing people wrapped in blankets and gathering in open spaces during the early morning hours.
Seven Injured, Emergency Response Underway
At least seven individuals sustained injuries during the incident, primarily due to falls, debris, or panic-related accidents. Emergency teams responded quickly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. All are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have launched a rapid assessment of infrastructure and buildings in the affected areas. So far, there have been no reports of fatalities, though damage evaluations are ongoing.

Türkiye sits atop major tectonic fault lines, making it one of the most earthquake-prone regions globally. The country has experienced several catastrophic quakes in recent decades.
