ISLAMABAD (PEN) : During high-level discussions at the United Nations, a Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Fu Cong, Russia’s UN envoy, and elected members (E10) of the UN Security Council. The talks focused on the escalating security situation in South Asia following recent Indian military actions and unsubstantiated accusations against Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack.
Bilawal Denounces India’s Aggression and Indus Waters Treaty Suspensio
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned India’s recent aggressive moves, including the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, which he described as “weaponisation of water” and a violation of international law. He underscored that India’s blame of Pakistan for the Pahalgam incident lacked credible evidence, calling the accusations “reckless” and highlighting Pakistan’s offer for impartial investigations that India rejected.
He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace, restraint, and the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. Bilawal stated, “The international community must reject India’s dangerous ‘new normal’ of aggression.”
Calls for Multilateral Cooperation and Conflict Resolution
The Pakistani delegation urged China and Russia to support multilateral efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. Bilawal highlighted the necessity for a shift from conflict management to conflict resolution for enduring peace in South Asia. Both China and Pakistan agreed that unilateral actions and aggressive posturing endanger regional peace and must be opposed.
Ambassador Fu Cong expressed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan during these challenging times and reiterated the importance of dialogue and cooperation to address the Kashmir issue consistent with Security Council resolutions.
Briefings to Russia and UN Security Council E10
In a separate meeting, Bilawal briefed Russia’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia on the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, reaffirming Pakistan’s rejection of India’s baseless allegations and highlighting India’s support for terrorism within Pakistan. He stressed that sustainable peace depends on the just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute under international law.
Later, the Pakistani delegation also updated the elected members of the UN Security Council (E10) on India’s unlawful military aggression and its breach of treaty obligations by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. The E10 members welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and emphasized the importance of de-escalation, adherence to international law, and peaceful dispute resolution.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s Position on Sovereignty and Terrorism
Bilawal reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism, stating, “Pakistan unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and remains a victim of terrorism, planned and sponsored from beyond our borders.” He stressed that Pakistan seeks no conflict but is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The delegation included senior diplomatic figures such as former Foreign Secretaries Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tehmina Janjua, reflecting the significance Pakistan places on its diplomatic engagements at the UN.
