ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector continues its upward trajectory, with exports crossing \$3.14 billion during the first ten months of the current fiscal year, according to a new report presented to the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology.
IT Exports and Company Registrations Show Robust Growth
The Ministry of IT’s report highlights a 21% year-on-year increase in IT exports from July to April. Simultaneously, the number of registered IT companies has grown by 19%, with over 20,000 now listed with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).
“These figures underscore Pakistan’s growing stature as a digital services exporter,” the ministry stated. “Among service sectors, IT continues to lead in foreign exchange earnings.”
Strategic Vision for Digital Pakistan
Officials noted that the government is actively working to position the country as a global digital hub. Key areas of focus include enhancing infrastructure, encouraging tech innovation, and attracting foreign direct investment in IT and software services.
The Ministry further emphasized that these achievements are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy and improve employment opportunities in high-tech industries.
Senate Committee Applauds Progress
Members of the Senate Standing Committee welcomed the performance report and urged continued investment in IT infrastructure and workforce development. They emphasized the importance of upskilling youth and promoting policies that support startups and digital entrepreneurship.
The committee stressed that sustained government support is vital for maintaining momentum and ensuring Pakistan’s competitiveness in the global tech ecosystem.
