ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The White House has indicated that President Donald Trump may impose additional sanctions on Russia if diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine do not yield positive results. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the president is prepared to take further action if necessary. “This is something the president has talked about, and he is certainly prepared to do it if necessary,” Leavitt remarked during a recent press briefing.
Leavitt emphasized the administration’s commitment to achieving a peace deal, describing the current stage of negotiations as being “on the 10th-yard line” and noting that the U.S. has “never been closer to a peace deal than we are in this moment.” She reiterated President Trump’s determination to secure a resolution to the conflict.
In related developments, the Trump administration has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to address the situation. President Trump has held discussions with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the White House describing these conversations as “very positive.” Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has been leading negotiations, with support from other senior officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz
While the administration remains hopeful for a peaceful resolution, it continues to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to implement additional measures if Russia’s actions do not align with the pursuit of peace.
