ISLAMABAD (PEN) : As Eidul Azha approaches, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of persistently hot and dry conditions across most plain regions of the country, with rain and thunderstorms forecast in the upper areas.
Dry Conditions in Plains, Rain in Northern Regions
According to the PMD’s latest forecast, very hot and dry weather is expected to prevail over the plains during the Eid holidays. However, the northern and upper parts of Pakistan are likely to experience rain, duststorms, and isolated thunderstorms, especially from June 2 to June 5.
The Met Office stated that moist currents are entering the northeastern parts of the country, while a westerly wave is anticipated to reach the upper regions starting June 3. Under this weather system, areas such as *Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad* are likely to witness rain, hail, and thunderstorms.
Potential for Heavy Rain, Duststorms and Hail
The PMD has also forecast *isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms on June 3 and 4*, particularly affecting:
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum
Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin
Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal
Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh
Additionally, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, and Waziristan are expected to be impacted.
Southern Punjab may also experience duststorms during this period.
Public Safety Advisory Issued
The PMD cautioned that *windstorms, hail, and lightning* could damage loose infrastructure such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly in the upper and central regions.
Farmers are urged to plan agricultural activities accordingly, while the general public, travelers, and tourists have been advised to take *necessary safety precautions* during the forecasted weather events.
