ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal have officially appointed former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as their new head coach, just days before the club participates in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
Italian Tactician Begins New Chapter in Saudi Arabia
“I am Simone Inzaghi and today begins my story with Al Hilal,” the 49-year-old Italian said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), in which he is seen enjoying Arabian coffee and donning the club’s lapel pin. The announcement follows widespread speculation about a two-year contract reportedly worth €50 million.
Welcoming him with the message “The Italian genius is here,” Al Hilal added another marquee name to their growing roster of international football stars.
High-Profile Addition to Star-Studded Squad
Inzaghi will join a team that already boasts talents like Ruben Neves and Aleksandar Mitrovic. The club had previously parted ways with Brazilian forward Neymar in January after the star’s season was cut short by injury.
This move is seen as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader sporting ambition, with the kingdom set to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034. Inzaghi’s appointment also fuels speculation about further big-name transfers, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who is reportedly considering leaving rival club Al Nassr. Al Hilal is viewed as a potential destination.
Recent Record with Inter Milan
Inzaghi’s tenure with Inter saw highs and lows. While he guided the team to one Serie A title and two Coppa Italia trophies, his recent Champions League campaigns ended in disappointment. Inter suffered a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the latest final, following an earlier loss to Manchester City. His departure from Inter was confirmed earlier this week.
Preparing for the Club World Cup
Al Hilal is among the 32 teams set to compete in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup beginning June 15. Other participants include Real Madrid, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inzaghi’s former club Inter Milan.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Inzaghi to see whether he can translate his European experience into success in the Middle East.
