ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a bid to curb fare exploitation during the Eid ul Azha travel rush, the district administration in Tank has initiated a crackdown against transporters charging passengers above government-approved rates.
This enforcement drive follows provincial directives aimed at protecting passengers from fare gouging and ensuring compliance with public transport regulations during the holiday season.
Surprise Inspections Target Passenger Routes
Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) Revenue, Saifullah Jan Marwat, led a series of surprise inspections along the Tank–Dera Ismail Khan Road. Several passenger vehicles were examined during the operation.
Authorities discovered multiple transporters were overcharging travelers and operating air-conditioned vehicles with the AC units switched off—both clear violations of transport regulations.
Penalties Imposed for Non-Compliance
Heavy fines were levied on violators found disregarding official fare structures and service conditions. Transport operators and drivers received strict warnings, with the AAC emphasizing the need to adhere to the government’s guidelines.
“The administration is committed to extending relief to people, and to this end, a comprehensive monitoring plan has been devised to ensure that transporters do not exploit passengers during the Eid ul Azha holidays,” said AAC Marwat.
Monitoring Measures in Place
District officials have indicated that enforcement will continue throughout the holiday period, with special focus on high-traffic routes and long-distance travel hubs. The administration is also encouraging public cooperation in reporting any incidents of overcharging or poor service.
