ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A small aircraft used for skydiving, carrying 20 people, crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday near Tullahoma Regional Airport in Tennessee, officials confirmed.
The de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter went down around 12:45 p.m. local time (1745 GMT) in central Coffee County, with several passengers sustaining injuries. Some of those aboard were airlifted to nearby hospitals, authorities said, as emergency crews worked at the active crash site on Old Shelbyville Road.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol stated on X (formerly Twitter), “Some have been airlifted to nearby hospitals. This is an active scene,” and noted that troopers were assisting local police at the location. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
Photographs circulating on social media showed the white plane resting nose-down in the grass, with the tail section visibly broken off.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the crash. Local reports identified the aircraft as being used specifically for skydiving operations.
Authorities have not released details on the condition of all passengers or the number of survivors. The situation remains under active investigation.
