ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the vital role of play in children’s development during her message on International Day of Play. She emphasized that every child deserves not only education but also the freedom to play and learn without constraints.
Play as a Pillar of Child Development
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif articulated that a joyful and playful child symbolizes happiness, underscoring that play is fundamental to mental, emotional, and creative growth. She expressed concern over children in regions like Kashmir and Palestine, who are deprived of basic rights, including the opportunity to play.
Initiatives Promoting Play-Based Learning
The Chief Minister highlighted the Nawaz Sharif Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Education, where play-based learning is integral to the curriculum. This initiative aims to create an environment where every child is safe, free, and has equal opportunities to play, learn, and grow.
These efforts align with Punjab’s broader commitment to children’s rights, including the establishment of the first virtual child safety center and the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against child abuse and exploitation. The province has also launched various programs focusing on children’s health, education, and protection.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s message reinforces the importance of play in a child’s development and the government’s dedication to ensuring that every child in Punjab has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and nurturing environment.
