ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Speaker of Kazakhstan’s Senate, Maulen Ashimbayev, met with Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) in Astana. The meeting focused on expanding inter-parliamentary ties and strengthening bilateral collaboration across key sectors.
Strengthening Regional Parliamentary Relations
During the discussion, Ashimbayev highlighted the ongoing improvement in Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations, crediting high-level diplomatic engagement for the positive momentum. He emphasized the importance of legislative cooperation in supporting initiatives led by both nations’ presidents.
“The consistent growth in our bilateral ties provides a strong foundation for enhancing parliamentary collaboration,” Ashimbayev said, stressing the need to align legislative efforts with strategic goals shared by Astana and Bishkek.
Focus on Lawmaking, Environmental Cooperation
Both sides agreed on the value of exchanging expertise in legislative procedures, administrative functions, and parliamentary governance. They also addressed broader regional priorities, particularly in environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
Ashimbayev underscored the urgency of collaborative efforts to tackle environmental challenges, including the restoration of the Aral Sea and addressing regional water supply issues. He also called for increased mutual trade, particularly in agricultural products.
Commitment to Joint Development Projects
Chairman Turgunbek uulu reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to fostering deeper relations with Kazakhstan, particularly through joint economic and humanitarian projects.
He expressed readiness to support the practical implementation of initiatives discussed during the meeting and emphasized the importance of steady, long-term development in bilateral relations.
Cultural and Media Engagement
In a separate engagement, Turgunbek uulu also visited the TV and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan, reflecting the growing interest in media and cultural exchange between the two nations.
The meeting is part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries, as represented at the TURKPA gathering, and signals a continued commitment to regional stability and shared growth.
