ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory forecasting mixed weather conditions across Pakistan from June 13 to 18. A weak western weather system is expected to influence the upper regions of the country from June 13 to 16, potentially affecting weather patterns in multiple provinces.
Regional Weather Forecast
Punjab: The province is anticipated to experience persistent hot weather throughout the week.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)*: While predominantly hot, scattered rain and windstorms are likely in several districts, including Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, Swat, Waziristan, and adjoining areas.
Sindh and Balochistan*: These regions are forecast to remain mainly hot and dry throughout the advisory period.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK)*: Hot weather is expected, with isolated rainfall possible in areas like Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shighar, Bagh, and Neelum Valley from June 13 to 16.
Heatwave Conditions
Earlier reports indicated that temperatures in Lahore reached as high as 50°C, with heat intensity peaking at 60°C. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned that the ongoing heatwave could persist for another 24 hours, with temperatures potentially rising by another 7°C.
Precautionary Measures
The NDMA has advised the public, particularly those residing in heat-prone regions, to take necessary precautions during extreme temperatures. These include:
Staying hydrated
Avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours (11:00 am to 4:00 pm)
Wearing light and breathable clothing
Checking on vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with health conditions
Additionally, travelers and tourists planning to visit northern or hilly regions are urged to remain updated with local weather conditions and follow safety advisories.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation through its National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) and is coordinating with provincial and district authorities to ensure timely preparedness and response.
