ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Saudi Arabia has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent airstrikes on Tehran, describing the attacks as a “blatant violation” of international law and a serious threat to regional stability.
Riyadh Denounces Israeli Aggression
In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Israeli aggressions against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran, which undermine its sovereignty and security and constitute a clear violation of international laws and norms.”
The Kingdom urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the wider international community to take immediate and decisive measures to halt the ongoing aggression, emphasizing the risk of further destabilizing an already fragile region.
“The international community and the Security Council bear a great responsibility to immediately halt this aggression,” the statement said.
Context of the Airstrikes
The Saudi statement came hours after Israeli fighter jets carried out a series of coordinated strikes across Tehran. The attacks resulted in the deaths of Iran’s top military commanders—including Major General Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC Chief Hossein Salami—as well as two prominent nuclear scientists, Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi and Dr. Fereydoon Abbasi.
US President Donald Trump acknowledged prior awareness of the planned operation but denied direct American involvement. Nonetheless, Iranian officials have maintained that such a large-scale assault could not have occurred without coordination from Washington, holding the United States responsible alongside Israel.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has invoked the UN Charter to assert its “legal and legitimate” right to respond and warned that Israel and its allies would face consequences.
Regional Implications
Saudi Arabia’s denunciation marks a significant stance amid escalating tensions. The Kingdom has previously engaged in discreet dialogue with both Israel and Iran in attempts to ease Gulf tensions. Meanwhile, Trump confirmed that US Central Command (CENTCOM) remains on high alert anticipating potential Iranian retaliation and reiterated America’s commitment to Israel’s security.
