ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian territory, denouncing the move as “unprovoked” and a direct threat to peace in the Middle East. The strikes reportedly resulted in multiple casualties, including senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister expressed deep concern over the loss of life and extended solidarity with the people of Iran.
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel,” said PM Shehbaz.
“I convey my deepest sympathies to the Iranian people on the loss of lives in this attack.”
Escalation Risks and Call for International Intervention
The Israeli airstrikes are said to have hit critical sites across Tehran and other cities, killing key figures such as Iran’s Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear scientist Fereydoon Abbasi. These developments have intensified fears of broader regional conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz warned that the strikes could further destabilize the already tense Middle East and called for urgent action from global powers.
“This grave and highly irresponsible act is deeply alarming and risks further de-stabilising an already volatile region,” he stated.
“We urge the international community and the United Nations to take urgent steps to prevent any further escalation that could imperil regional and global peace.”
Regional and Global Response
The airstrikes have triggered condemnation from several nations, particularly within the Muslim world, and raised alarms among international peacekeeping institutions. Pakistan’s official response underscores its longstanding position advocating restraint, dialogue, and respect for sovereignty in global conflicts.
The prime minister’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, with both countries exchanging threats following the deadly attack. Observers fear the confrontation could expand if not addressed promptly by the international community.
