ISLAMABAD (PEN) : During a session at the United Nations Security Council on June 14, 2025, Iran accused the United States of complicity in Israel’s recent attacks against its territory, a charge the US firmly denied. The confrontation unfolded as Tehran and Washington remain locked in a high-stakes standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran Blames US for Enabling Israeli Aggression
Iranian Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani strongly condemned Israel’s military actions, accusing Tel Aviv of aiming “to kill diplomacy, to sabotage negotiations, and to drag the region into wider conflict.” He further claimed that Washington’s involvement was “beyond doubt.”
“Those who support this regime, with the United States at the forefront, must understand that they are complicit,” Iravani stated. “By aiding and enabling these crimes, they share full responsibility for the consequences.”
US Urges Tehran to Return to Negotiations
Responding to the allegations, the United States called on Iran to pursue diplomatic engagement. Washington emphasized that it would be “wise” for Tehran to negotiate over its nuclear ambitions rather than escalate tensions further.
US President Donald Trump recently announced a 60-day ultimatum to Iran, which expired on Thursday, demanding progress in curbing Tehran’s uranium enrichment program. Despite this, uncertainty looms over the planned sixth round of US-Iran talks scheduled for Sunday in Oman.
Israeli Response: Strikes Are an Act of Self-Defense
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon defended the airstrikes, stating that Iran had been “preparing for war” and describing the Israeli military response as “an act of national preservation.”
Ongoing Diplomatic Challenges Amid Rising Conflict
The sharp exchange at the UN Security Council underscores the growing difficulties in resolving the Israel-Iran conflict diplomatically. With missile strikes and retaliations intensifying on the ground, global powers remain engaged in efforts to prevent a wider regional war.
