ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Karachi may see a break from the persistent heat as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms in parts of the city today.
Humid, Cloudy Weather with Possible Thunderstorms
According to the PMD, weather conditions in the metropolis are expected to remain humid and partly cloudy over the next 24 hours. While the forecast includes the possibility of isolated rain and thunder activity, temperatures are likely to remain high, with the mercury projected to reach between 36°C and 38°C.
“The maximum temperature can reach up to 36 to 38 degrees Celsius,” the PMD stated in its daily weather update.
The humidity level was recorded at 73%, with warm northwesterly winds blowing at a mild speed of 3 km/h. Overnight, the minimum temperature in the city dropped to 30°C.
Pre-Monsoon System Influencing Eastern Sindh
A pre-monsoon weather system that began affecting eastern parts of Sindh over the weekend is contributing to the change in weather. The PMD had earlier predicted that this system could trigger rain and thunderstorms in parts of southern and southeastern Sindh, including Karachi.
Meanwhile, a separate westerly wave continues to impact upper and central regions of the country and is expected to persist through Monday. This has led to variable weather across the nation.
Rain Recorded in Other Parts of the Country
Rainfall and thundershowers were recently observed in several cities, including Gujrat, Mangla, Sialkot, Islamabad, Murree, and parts of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan. These weather conditions align with the PMD’s broader forecast of isolated dust storms and thundershowers in northeast and southern Punjab, northeast Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and northern areas.
Despite the rainfall forecast, extreme heat continues to grip many parts of the country. Turbat and Pasni recorded the highest temperatures on Saturday, soaring to 49°C.
