ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, according to state media reports, as tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv continue to escalate amid regional conflict. Authorities also confirmed the arrest of four additional individuals accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence.
Executed Spy Accused of Espionage and Subversion
The executed individual, whose identity has not been made public, was found guilty of conducting espionage and sabotage activities for Mossad. The sentence was carried out following a legal process that included a criminal trial and a review by Iran’s Supreme Court, officials said.
The move signals Iran’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on what it alleges are foreign plots aimed at destabilizing the country from within.
Fresh Arrests and Weapons Seizures
Sa’eed Montazer al-Mahdi, spokesperson for Iran’s Police Command, announced the arrest of two suspected Mossad operatives on Sunday in Fashafuyeh, a district located in Tehran Province.
Security forces reportedly confiscated more than 200 kilograms of explosives, components for 23 drones, various launching systems, and additional military-grade equipment during the operation. A Nissan pickup truck was also seized at the scene.
“These operatives were identified and detained before they could carry out acts of sabotage inside the country,” Montazer al-Mahdi stated.
Earlier the same day, two more suspects were apprehended in Savojbolagh County, Alborz Province. Authorities believe they were part of a broader Israeli plan involving small, explosive-laden drones intended for use in covert operations within Iran.
Rising Tensions Following Airstrikes
The arrests and execution come just days after Israeli airstrikes reportedly targeted several locations in Iran, including residential zones—a move Tehran has condemned as a serious act of aggression. In response, Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles and drone strikes against major Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem.
The exchange has raised concerns of a wider regional escalation, with daily life disrupted across parts of Israel as civilians seek shelter from ongoing threats.
Iran Vows Continued Action Against Foreign Networks
Iranian authorities maintain that Mossad is behind a series of recent sabotage attempts and have pledged to dismantle all Israeli intelligence networks operating within its borders.
“The latest arrests demonstrate the alertness of Iran’s security and intelligence agencies in confronting foreign threats,” state media quoted officials as saying.
As the conflict continues to intensify, both countries appear locked in an increasingly complex and dangerous shadow war that threatens to further destabilize the region.
