ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a significant development for cross-border engineering collaboration, the China Society of Engineers (CSE) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) have signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) to formally recognize each other’s professional engineering qualifications.
Signed During Belt and Road Forum
The agreement was finalized during the Belt and Road Forum on Engineering Capacity Building, a major segment of the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange. The event drew more than 160 participants, including representatives from six international organizations and 26 national engineering institutions, as well as academic and industry experts.
Streamlined Accreditation and International Standards
The MRA establishes a framework that enables engineers from both countries to have their professional credentials recognized across borders. It ensures mutual alignment with international standards while also respecting each country’s regulatory systems.
Under this agreement, both sides agreed to the equivalence of professional competency assessments, evaluation protocols, and quality assurance mechanisms. This will allow engineers from China and Pakistan to benefit from simplified accreditation procedures.
Supporting CPEC and BRI Projects
The accord is expected to significantly bolster workforce development for ongoing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Officials anticipate that the deal will help supply skilled, certified professionals for infrastructure, energy, and technology ventures that are central to both countries’ strategic interests.
Engineering Consensus Adopted
Participants at the forum also adopted the “Consensus on Belt and Road Engineering Capacity Building,” which emphasizes standardization, skills enhancement, and deepened international collaboration in the field of engineering.
This agreement marks a major step toward strengthening China-Pakistan ties in technical fields and reflects a growing emphasis on professional mobility and global integration of engineering standards.
