ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast predominantly hot and dry weather across the country this week, with severe heat conditions expected in lowland regions through June 21.
Widespread Heat Expected, Public Urged to Take Precautions
According to the Met Office, “very hot weather conditions are likely in the plain areas” including parts of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The department has issued an alert advising citizens—particularly children, the elderly, and vulnerable individuals—to avoid prolonged sun exposure and remain well-hydrated.
“People are strongly advised to stay indoors between 11:00am and 4:00pm, avoid direct sunlight, and increase water intake to mitigate heat-related health risks,” the advisory stated.
Regional Weather Breakdown
Islamabad*: Hot and dry weather will persist, with daytime temperatures expected to rise sharply.
Punjab & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa*: Most districts will remain hot and dry, especially in southern and central plains.
Sindh*: The province will face hot and humid weather, with extreme heat expected in central and upper areas.
Balochistan*: Temperatures in southern and eastern regions are forecasted to be particularly high under dry conditions.
Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan*: Kashmir may experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms, while Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to remain generally dry with mild cloud cover.
Health and Safety Advisory
The PMD has reiterated the importance of community awareness during this period. Individuals are encouraged to:
Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours
Wear light, breathable clothing
Monitor symptoms of heatstroke such as dizziness, rapid heartbeat, or fainting
Authorities are also coordinating with local governments to prepare heat emergency response plans, particularly in urban centers vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
