ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In a significant diplomatic development, China has reiterated its full support for Pakistan’s bid to join BRICS, underscoring a shared commitment to championing the interests of developing nations. The announcement came during an exclusive interaction in Islamabad between Hu Zhaoming, Director-General of Information and Spokesperson for the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), and a select group of Pakistani media representatives.
Strategic Partnership Highlighted
Speaking at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Hu emphasized that China is actively working to support Pakistan’s inclusion in BRICS, stating, “It is time to coordinate better in BRICS to protect the interests of the developing nations. We support sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.”
Mr. Hu, the first IDCPC spokesperson to visit Pakistan, stressed the deep-rooted public support and mutual trust that underpin the China-Pakistan relationship. “We can count on Pakistan’s support to China on all issues. Some countries may not want to see this friendship growing, but we will continue our march on the path of cooperation,” he said.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The Chinese official called for greater cooperation in various fields including governance, cybersecurity, and poverty alleviation. He noted that stability and reform are essential for development, and highlighted the role of mutual learning in strengthening ties.
“China is ready to work with Pakistan to identify social media accounts operating from hostile sources with malicious intent. We can also share our experience in poverty alleviation and good governance,” Mr. Hu added.
He welcomed the participation of young Pakistani politicians in exchange visits to China and stressed the importance of learning from China’s development model.
Enhancing Media and Youth Engagement
Highlighting the growing influence of digital platforms, Mr. Hu advocated for closer media collaboration between the two countries. “Our friendship needs more support from the media of both nations. It is important for our media to cooperate and present an objective view of China-Pakistan ties,” he said.
He encouraged Pakistani content creators and social media influencers to promote bilateral relations in both Urdu and Chinese languages, particularly to better engage younger generations.
Upholding Sovereignty and Multilateralism
Mr. Hu also reiterated China’s stance on non-interference and multilateral cooperation. “We support Pakistan’s balanced foreign policy and oppose using any country against another,” he said, emphasizing that the CPC maintains cordial ties with all political parties in Pakistan.
The IDCPC official concluded by stressing the growing importance of collaboration among developing nations amid shifting global dynamics. “Western countries still play a dominant role globally, but developing nations have a significant role to shape the future. We must work together to protect our shared interests,” he remarked.
