ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has credited the country’s “hybrid model of governance” for its recent diplomatic, regional, and economic accomplishments, particularly in enhancing ties with the United States.
A Historic Diplomatic Breakthrough
In a statement shared on X, Asif described the meeting between former US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, as “an unprecedented development.” He emphasized the unique nature of this engagement:
“Never before has a US President invited and held talks with a Pakistani army chief in such a manner,”
he added, highlighting its importance in the 78‑year history of bilateral relations.
Strategic Dialogue and Regional Impact
The high-level discussion, held at the White House’s Cabinet Room during lunch and followed by Oval Office meetings, involved key US figures including Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff. Field Marshal Munir, accompanied by Pakistan’s National Security Adviser, engaged in extensive dialogue on pressing global and regional issues.
Asif noted that the talks reinforced Pakistan’s role in international affairs, particularly emphasizing the necessity of resolving tensions between Iran and Israel. Mutual insight and concern over these conflicts marked the conversations.
Leadership and Economic Revival
Asif lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir, crediting their combined leadership for steering Pakistan toward economic rejuvenation and diplomatic success. He underscored these achievements, including initiatives to counter Indian aggression.
He further remarked:
“The COAS acknowledged President Trump’s statesmanship and his ability to comprehend and address the multifaceted challenges faced by the global community.”
According to an official statement by Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR), this meeting resulted in appreciation conveyed for Trump’s constructive role in facilitating a ceasefire during a recent crisis between Pakistan and India.
By leveraging its hybrid governance framework, Pakistan has positioned itself for stronger international partnerships and enhanced regional influence.
