ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Lieutenant General (Retired) Sajjad Ghani has officially resigned from his position as Chairman of the *Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)*, citing personal reasons, according to a government announcement on Saturday.
PM Acknowledges Contributions to Infrastructure Development
Prime Minister *Shehbaz Sharif* has forwarded Ghani’s resignation to the *Cabinet Division* for formal approval. In an official statement, the prime minister *praised Ghani’s contributions*, saying he played a vital role in the advancement of Pakistan’s water and power infrastructure.
“The Prime Minister appreciated Sajjad Ghani’s services during his tenure and extended his best wishes for his future endeavours,” the statement noted.
A Dual Career in Engineering and Military Leadership
Appointed as the *23rd chairman of WAPDA* in mid-2022, Lt Gen (retd) Ghani brought a rare combination of *military leadership and civil engineering expertise* to the role. A graduate of the *Military College of Engineering, he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1984 and later completed a **Master’s in Civil Engineering* from *UET Lahore*.
During his military career, Ghani held several key leadership positions including *Commander of the Corps of Engineers, **Quartermaster General, **Vice Chief of General Staff at GHQ, and **Corps Commander Karachi*. His extensive experience in large-scale construction and logistics was seen as highly relevant for overseeing WAPDA’s major infrastructure projects.
