ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Russian President *Vladimir Putin* has denounced the recent U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, calling the attacks “groundless, unjustifiable, and illegitimate.” The statement was made during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister *Abbas Araghchi* in Moscow as diplomatic efforts intensify amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Russia Slams “Unprovoked Aggression”
Describing the strikes as “an unprovoked aggression that violates international norms,” President Putin emphasized the need for diplomacy to prevent further escalation. “There can be no justification for such actions,” he stated, reaffirming Russia’s support for Iran and a commitment to seeking a peaceful resolution through dialogue.
Putin welcomed Araghchi at the Kremlin, noting the urgency of direct talks. “Your visit allows us to discuss these pressing issues and jointly think about a way out of the current situation,” he said.
Iran Seeks Strategic Support
Foreign Minister Araghchi said his visit to Moscow was aimed at holding “closer, more precise, and more serious consultations” in response to the strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. He expressed gratitude for Russia’s stance, adding that Moscow was on “the right side of history.” Araghchi also conveyed greetings from Iran’s Supreme Leader *Ayatollah Ali Khamenei* and President *Masoud Pezeshkian* to the Russian leadership.
China Urges Restraint Amid Escalating Tensions
Meanwhile, China voiced alarm over the potential regional fallout from the conflict. *Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, warned of the broader implications, stating that the situation risks a *“spillover of war.”
Guo stressed the strategic importance of the Gulf region, calling it a critical artery for global trade. “China calls on the international community to make greater efforts to prevent regional instability from having a wider impact on global economic development,” he said, urging all sides to return to diplomatic dialogue.
