ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s National Security Adviser (NSA) attended the 20th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing, where he reiterated Islamabad’s consistent stance on global and regional peace and stability.
During the high-level summit, the NSA emphasized Pakistan’s role as a “Net Regional Stabilizer,” stressing the country’s continued commitment to fostering a peaceful and stable neighborhood. In his address, he also outlined Pakistan’s contributions to international and regional security initiatives, while reaffirming its dedication to multilateral cooperation.
Bilateral Engagements with SCO Member States
On the sidelines of the summit, the NSA held meetings with senior officials from key SCO member countries to discuss ways to deepen bilateral and multilateral security collaboration. These engagements focused on enhancing strategic partnerships and shared responses to emerging security challenges in the region.
China Acknowledges Pakistan’s Diplomatic Efforts
A day prior, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad to discuss regional security, including recent developments in the Iran-Israel conflict. The ambassador praised Pakistan’s proactive role on diplomatic platforms such as the United Nations Security Council in promoting peaceful resolutions through dialogue and diplomacy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed appreciation for China’s continued support, particularly in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and advancing key infrastructure initiatives.
Strengthening the Pakistan-China Strategic Partnership
During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended warm wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang and acknowledged preparations underway for his visit to China later this August to attend the SCO Summit.
Highlighting Pakistan’s enduring partnership with China under the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to completing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Key areas of collaboration include:
Upgradation of the ML-I railway line
Realignment of the Karakoram Highway (KKH)
Operationalization of Gwadar Port
Joint initiatives in agriculture, industry, and information technology
The Prime Minister underlined that China’s economic assistance had played a vital role in improving Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators, enabling progress on the government’s socio-economic development agenda.
Ambassador Jiang confirmed that preparations for the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit were in full swing and reaffirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Pakistan on all shared objectives.
