ISLAMABAD (PEN) : On June 24, China strongly condemned the UK’s latest statements and security report referencing Beijing, accusing London of spreading the so-called “China threat” and interfering in China’s internal affairs.
The rebuke came after UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy addressed Parliament, stressing the importance of engaging with China while simultaneously raising concerns over alleged security threats, including issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, the South China Sea, and human rights.
In a firm response, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the UK dismissed the accusations as “entirely fabricated” and “malicious slander,” particularly claims of espionage, cyber-attacks, and transnational repression.
The spokesperson reiterated that such matters fall strictly within China’s domestic jurisdiction and warned external forces against provoking instability.
“China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order,” the spokesperson said. “China’s development brings opportunities, not threats.”
Beijing urged London to abandon what it called a “Cold War mentality” and ideological prejudice. The spokesperson emphasized that mutual respect and open cooperation are essential for maintaining stable and productive UK-China relations.
