ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have introduced a cutting-edge anti-drone system to fortify security measures against aerial threats, official sources confirmed Wednesday. The newly procured technology promises heightened detection and neutralisation capabilities at extended ranges, substantially enhancing counterterrorism operations.
What the New System Brings
KP police officials disclosed that the system is designed for deployment at critical infrastructure, including government buildings, venues hosting public figures, and other events of high security sensitivity. This marks a significant upgrade in the force’s surveillance and defence toolkit.
Militant organizations have increasingly used drones to carry out attacks, particularly in regions such as North Waziristan and southern KP, highlighting the urgency for such a strategic investment.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized the importance of the new tool: “Anti-drone system will play a critical role in upcoming security operations.” He further noted that this acquisition aligns with broader initiatives to “modernise the police and strengthen their ability to respond to complex security challenges.”
Rising Threat Amid Regional Shifts
Pakistan has seen a resurgence in terrorist activities since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. May 2025 experienced a modest uptick in insurgent violence, despite ongoing tensions with India not translating into escalated extremist operations.
Data from the Islamabad-based Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed a total of 85 militant incidents in May, compared to 81 the previous month—an increase of approximately 5%.
