ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Finance Bill for the fiscal year 2025–26 is being presented today in the National Assembly by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. As the final legislative step in the budget process, its passage is essential for the government to execute its financial plan from July 1 onward.
Session Agenda and Opening
According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the session will commence at 11:00 am with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Following this, Minister Aurangzeb is scheduled to formally introduce the Finance Bill 2025–26 for parliamentary approval.
Grants & Demands Cleared
On Wednesday, the assembly approved the demands for grants for 33 federal ministries and divisions. A total of 136 grants were passed, amounting to over Rs 9.95 trillion, while more than 750 amendment motions submitted by the opposition were rejected by majority vote.
Key approvals include:
National Food Security Division: Three grants totaling Rs 34.04 billion, with 98 cut motions rejected.
Finance Division: Fourteen grants amounting to Rs 3.55 trillion.
Interior and Narcotics Control Division*: Five grants totaling Rs 356.8 billion.
Human Rights Division: Five grants amounting to Rs 1.74 billion.
These appropriations will fund operations through June 30, 2026.
What Comes Next
With the Finance Bill in front of the National Assembly today, lawmakers will review and debate its provisions. Upon its approval, the federal government will be empowered to allocate funds and execute the budgetary plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
