ISLAMABAD (PEN) : At least 12 people lost their lives and 39 others sustained injuries in a series of rain-related incidents across Punjab from June 25 to June 27, according to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The report highlighted that 25 separate incidents occurred during this period, triggered by heavy rainfall and strong winds that caused widespread structural damage across multiple districts.
Roof and Wall Collapses Lead to Most Fatalities
Most of the deaths were caused by the collapse of roofs and walls weakened by torrential downpours. Affected areas include Bahawalnagar, Faisalabad, and Khanewal, among others.
The PDMA has advised residents—especially in vulnerable and low-lying areas—to reinforce the structural integrity of their homes and exercise caution as monsoon activity continues across the province.
Swat River Tragedy: Search Operations Continue
Separately, authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are continuing rescue operations following a flash flood incident in the Swat River. Deputy Commissioner Swat Shahzad Mehboob confirmed that nine out of 17 individuals who were swept away by the surge have been found dead.
“Nine people have died, and four others were rescued alive. Search efforts are still underway for the remaining four missing persons,” DC Mehboob said in a statement.
The victims were part of a group that included 10 residents from Sialkot, six from Mardan, and one local resident of Swat. According to rescue teams, the group had been having breakfast by the riverside when a sudden increase in water flow—caused by heavy upstream rain—overwhelmed the area at around 8 a.m.
