ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Iran’s exports to Kazakhstan through its northeastern Golestan Province have tripled over the past three years, reaching $149 million* in the most recent fiscal year, according to Darvish-Ali Hassanzadeh, director-general of the province’s Industry, Mining, and Trade Department.
Significant Growth in Trade Volume
Speaking at a meeting focused on enhancing trade ties between *Golestan Province and Kazakhstan, Hassanzadeh highlighted that exports increased from $43 million** during the fiscal year spanning *March 21, 2021, to March 20, 2022, to $149 million** in the fiscal year ending *March 20, 2025*.
Strategic Role for Kazakhstan
Hassanzadeh emphasized Kazakhstan’s potential as a key economic and trade partner for Iran, particularly in relation to Golestan Province. “The implementation of specialized logistical hubs in both nations is pivotal for enhancing trade throughput between Iran and Kazakhstan, and strategic initiatives can be undertaken in this domain,” he stated.
Trade Decline in Early 2025
Despite the long-term growth, recent figures from the *Iranian Customs Administration* show a decline in bilateral trade during the first two months of the current Iranian fiscal year (*March 21 to May 21, 2025). Trade volume during this period stood at **82,800 metric tons, valued at *\$36 million**.
When compared to the same period last year (*March 20 to May 20, 2024), this reflects a **36.3% drop in value* and a *33.3% decline in weight*, indicating short-term fluctuations amid broader growth trends.
The developments come as Kazakhstan also boosts grain exports to *Tajikistan*, signaling a broader regional shift in trade dynamics.
