ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah has come out in strong support of Diljit Dosanjh, who is facing backlash from right-wing groups over his role in the film Sardaar Ji 3, which stars Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
Backlash Over Cross-Border Collaboration
The film’s release sparked outrage from certain extremist circles in India, with some calling for bans on Diljit’s future projects due to his on-screen collaboration with a Pakistani artist. However, Shah dismissed the criticism as politically motivated and defended Diljit’s choice to participate in the project.
Shah: “I Stand Firmly With Diljit”
In a social media statement, Shah said, “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was.”
He further emphasized that Diljit’s involvement in the film reflected his *open-mindedness* and refusal to be drawn into divisive politics. “Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned. What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever I feel like it.”
Cultural Exchange Over Hate
The controversy has reignited the debate around *artistic freedom* and *India-Pakistan cultural ties*. Shah underlined the importance of preserving personal and artistic connections across borders, calling on people to resist hate-driven narratives.
In a sharp retort to those who criticized Diljit’s collaboration, Shah added: “*My response to those who say that is — Go to Kailasa.*”
Widespread Reaction
Shah’s comments have gone viral across Indian and Pakistani social media platforms, drawing praise for his firm stance against hate and support for *regional cultural unity*.
Sardaar Ji 3, released in *Pakistan on June 27*, has already seen strong box office performance despite the controversy surrounding its lead cast.
