ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The federal government has announced a significant hike in fuel prices, with both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) seeing sharp increases effective from Tuesday, July 1.
New Fuel Prices Announced
According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs8.36 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs266.79 per litre.
Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs10.39 per litre, now set at Rs277.98 per litre.
Carbon Levy Introduced
In addition to the price hike, a carbon levy of Rs2.50 per litre has been imposed on both petrol and diesel, further contributing to the increase in retail prices.
Previous Adjustment
This marks the second consecutive increase within a month. On June 16, petrol prices had risen by Rs4.80 per litre and diesel by Rs7.95 per litre, setting prices at Rs258.43 and Rs262.59 respectively at that time.
The government has attributed the adjustments to global market trends and fiscal requirements, as outlined in the latest petroleum pricing notification.
