ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Late-night heavy rains drenched Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday, with other cities including Sialkot, Haripur, Wazirabad, and Kalabagh also experiencing significant downpours.
In response to the severe weather conditions, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has declared a rain emergency. WASA spokesperson confirmed that teams equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed to critical areas to manage any emergency situations promptly.
Monitoring of Nullah Lai Underway
WASA Managing Director stated that Nullah Lai is being closely observed due to the rainfall intensity. Currently, water levels remain within safe limits, with measurements of five feet recorded at Katrian and four feet at the Gawalmandi Bridge, both below danger thresholds. Nonetheless, all precautionary measures have been implemented to address any potential rise.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas. WASA has urged the public to report emergencies immediately via their helpline.
Rainfall Statistics
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the highest rainfall recorded so far is 50mm at the PMD site and 38mm in Shamsabad.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as more rain is expected in the coming hours.
