ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan’s knitwear exports to China surged by 11% in the first five months of 2025, signaling growing demand for Pakistani apparel in one of the world’s most competitive textile markets.
According to data released by China Customs, exports of knitted and crocheted garments — including pullovers, jerseys, cardigans, and waistcoats — climbed to $4.30 million, up from $3.87 million in the same period last year.
Boost in Mid-Range and Winterwear Segments
The increase reflects Pakistan’s expanding share in China’s mid-range and winter clothing market. Analysts attribute the growth to upgraded production capabilities, particularly in cotton-blended knitwear, and enhanced compliance with Chinese quality and certification standards.
“Pakistani exporters have significantly upgraded their production processes, especially in dyeing and finishing,” noted Mohammad Azhar, a Lahore-based trade expert. “These improvements have helped align Pakistani products with the Chinese market’s demand for comfort, durability, and design in winter clothing.”
Impact of CPEC and Shifting Sourcing Trends
The uptick in apparel exports coincides with deeper trade cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has improved trade logistics and connectivity. Chinese buyers are also increasingly sourcing from countries like Pakistan due to their cost-effectiveness and rising quality standards.
Industry observers believe the trend could continue throughout 2025, supported by ongoing investments in Pakistan’s textile infrastructure and closer collaboration between manufacturers and Chinese importers.
With sustained innovation and adherence to international compliance benchmarks, Pakistan’s textile industry is positioning itself as a competitive player in global apparel supply chains.
