ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially issued a notification restoring several reserved seats in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies, bolstering the parliamentary strength of major political parties, most notably the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to the notification, 19 reserved seats in the National Assembly and dozens more across provincial legislatures have been reinstated. The restoration includes seats designated for women and minority representatives, reflecting updated party entitlements following legal and procedural clarifications.
National Assembly Gains
In the National Assembly, the PML-N has secured 13 additional seats — 12 for women and one minority seat — significantly enhancing its representation. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) gained 4 seats, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) obtained 2 seats.
These additions follow the finalization of reserved seat allocations based on the party position and constitutional provisions regarding representation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Adjustments
The ECP also reinstated 25 reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. JUI-F received the largest share with 10 seats, followed by PML-N with 7 and PPP with 6. Both the Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) gained one seat each.
Punjab Assembly Update
In Punjab, a total of 27 lawmakers have been restored to their reserved positions. PML-N emerged as the primary beneficiary, receiving 23 additional seats. PPP gained 2, while Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) secured one seat each.
Sindh Assembly Allocations
Three seats were restored in the Sindh Assembly. PPP gained two, while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) secured one.
The restoration of these reserved seats not only reshapes party standings in the assemblies but also reinforces the representation of women and minorities, as stipulated under Pakistan’s constitutional framework.
