ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has rejected claims of any conspiracy to topple the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) through a no-confidence vote.
No Plans for No-Trust Vote, Says PML-N Senator
PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui dismissed rumors linking a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to a plot against Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan Gandapur. “It is wrong to label the PM-governor meeting as a conspiracy,” Siddiqui said.
While acknowledging that a vote of no confidence is a legitimate democratic tool — citing PTI founder Imran Khan’s removal in April 2022 as an example — Siddiqui confirmed that no such motion is currently under consideration. “We will not resort to any such tactic that could plunge Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a crisis,” he added.
Meeting Focused on River Swat Tragedy and National Issues
Official information reveals that during the meeting held on Wednesday, Governor Kundi briefed the Prime Minister on the recent tragic incident in the River Swat, where several tourists lost their lives. The PM expressed condolences and urged relevant authorities to improve disaster management and preventive measures, according to a press release from the PM’s Office.
Other attendees included Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Minister Rana Mobashar Iqbal, PM’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Minister of State Abdul Rehman Kanju, and Special Assistant Talha Burki. Discussions also covered broader national matters.
Sanaullah Denies Talks with JUI-F on KP Government
PM Adviser Sanaullah dismissed reports that the ruling coalition discussed ousting the KP government with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Referring to a June 20 meeting where he was present, Sanaullah said no such plans were discussed.
He also denied any intentions to introduce a no-confidence motion against the PTI’s provincial government.
Government Warns Against Anarchy, Encourages Peaceful Protest
The government cautioned the PTI against stirring unrest under the guise of protests. While acknowledging the right to peaceful demonstrations, authorities emphasized that violence would not be tolerated.
The PTI has announced a nationwide protest campaign following 10th Muharram, in response to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling denying the party reserved seats for minorities and women in parliament. The court’s decision on June 27 clarified that PTI is not entitled to these reserved seats.
Sanaullah noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has repeatedly offered the PTI opportunities for dialogue, but the party has declined such overtures.
