ISLAMABAD (PEN) : In the wake of recent fuel price increases, transport operators across Pakistan have raised fares, escalating the financial strain on commuters. Intercity bus rates have climbed by as much as Rs 200, drawing criticism and concerns from passengers.
Notable Fare Increases
Lahore to Karachi* now costs Rs 5,400 (previously Rs 5,200)
Lahore to Sukkur* rose to Rs 3,400 from Rs 3,250
Lahore to Sadiqabad* increased to Rs 3,150 from Rs 3,000
Lahore to Faisalabad* jumped to Rs 830, up from Rs 760
Passenger Outcry and Oversight Demands
Commuters have warned that unchecked fare hikes are “unfair” and urged authorities to introduce a “proper monitoring system at bus terminals” to protect public interests.
Regulatory Response
A spokesperson from the Regional Transport Authority stressed that “strict action is being taken against transporters who impose excessive fare hikes beyond approved limits.” Authorities say they are actively investigating fare abuses and ready to penalize violators.
