ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Punjab’s Motor Vehicle Registration System has been out of service for a third consecutive day, disrupting routine operations at excise offices across the province.
System Revamp Causes Service Disruption
The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department confirmed that the registration portal is undergoing a significant overhaul. The shutdown began two days ago, coinciding with newly revised tax rates that the updated system must accommodate.
Currently, all excise offices in the region are unable to process vehicle registrations or related transactions until the upgrade is complete.
Public Frustration Grows
The service outage has inconvenienced numerous residents. “Repeated visits to the excise office in this heat are extremely difficult,” a local resident lamented, highlighting both the lack of access and challenging weather.
Another citizen pointed out operational inefficiencies, stating, “System upgrades should be scheduled during weekends or public holidays to avoid inconvenience.”
Citizens also noted that during wait times, excise staff appeared unengaged and more focused on personal conversations than assisting the public.
Officials Offer Reassurance
Despite the disruptions, the Director of Excise advised the public to remain calm, assuring that the system should be operational shortly. Officials are optimistic that the portal will be back online by tomorrow.
In the interim, residents are advised to postpone any planned visits to excise offices until after the new system is launched.
Next Steps
Once the revamp is completed, the system will reflect updated tax structures and enhance registration processes. Authorities are expected to release a formal timeline shortly and have indicated that they will implement measures to minimize future disruptions—possibly scheduling maintenance during off-peak hours.
In summary, Punjab’s motor vehicle registration system is currently down due to an important update tied to revised tax rates. Officials anticipate resuming services shortly. Meanwhile, citizens are encouraged to delay non-urgent visits and prepare for improved post-launch processing.
