ISLAMABAD (PEN) : A tragic road accident in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Chilhana area of Neelum Valley claimed the lives of six individuals on Friday, after a vehicle plunged thousands of feet into the Neelum River, local authorities confirmed.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Neelum, the car lost control and veered off the narrow mountainous road before tumbling down the steep gorge into the river below.
Immediate Rescue Efforts Launched
Upon receiving the alert, police, rescue teams, and local residents rushed to the scene and launched a recovery operation. The bodies of all six victims were retrieved from the riverbank after a coordinated effort.
“The terrain posed serious challenges to the rescue operation, but with the help of locals, all bodies were recovered successfully,” said a DDMA official.
Authorities Urge Caution in Mountain Regions
While the identities of the victims have yet to be officially released, local sources indicated that they were traveling together toward a remote part of Neelum Valley when the accident occurred.
Authorities have urged travelers to exercise extreme caution while navigating the region’s winding and elevated roads, particularly during the monsoon season, when conditions can become slippery and visibility is often poor.
