KARACHI (PEN) – Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) have submitted nomination papers for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker slots in the Sindh Assembly.
According to sources, PPP has requested MQM-P to withdraw their candidate for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker during the Sindh Assembly’s parliamentary session. MQM-P considered PPP’s request, and later, MQM-P submitted the nomination papers.
MQM-P has nominated Sofia Shah for Speaker and Rashid Shah for the Deputy Speaker positions in the Sindh Assembly.
Meanwhile, PPP has nominated Awais Shah for the speaker position and Anthony Naveed for the deputy speaker’s office. It is important to note that opposition parties are not eligible to field their candidates for the speaker and deputy speaker positions in the Sindh Assembly.
It is pertinent to mention that 13 successful candidates from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have not taken the oath as members of the Sindh Assembly.
Consequently, opposition parties are ineligible to contest the election for speaker and deputy speaker. The eligible candidates for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker in the Sindh Assembly have submitted their nomination papers today.
