ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The federal government has decided to speed up the search for oil and gas within the maritime boundaries of the country.
Details indicate that an increased effort will be made to find oil and gas in the coastal waters for the nation’s energy security. The prime minister has also directed to seek the services of foreign experts in two months in this regard.
Sources in the Petroleum Division say that vast reserves of oil and gas are estimated in the country’s two offshore basins, Indus and Makran.
In the last 77 years since the establishment of Pakistan, only 14 wells have been drilled in the sea to search for oil and gas.
It should be noted that on the occasion of the Petroleum Conference 2024 in Islamabad last year, the need for joint efforts to search for oil and gas reserves in the sea and outside the sea was emphasized.
