ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Punjab government has tabled the defamation law, which will also regulate social media.
Addressing the press conference in Lahore, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Wednesday: “Now, nobody will be allowed to insult others on social media. The affected person can file an application through the tribunal. The defamation case will have to wrap up within 180 days.”
“Three proceedings will be held in 21 days,” she said.
She said: “There is a dire need to end the process of hurling allegations against each other.”

Few days back, Bukhari said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was the “mastermind” behind May 9 vandalism.
Expressing her thoughts on the events that transpired on May 9 last year, Bukhari said: “The feelings of every Pakistani are hurt by remembering the events that happened on May 9.”
She said: “One extremist political group has attacked the Pakistan Army. The May 9 mayhem was the biggest conspiracy against the country. The military installations were attacked through a planned conspiracy to try to malign the institution.”
“It is important to bring the May 9 culprits to justice to move the country forward,” Bukhari said.

Earlier, Bukhari said that the PTI will not be allowed to indulge in vandalism.
Speaking exclusively to Samaa TV, Azma talked about the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, saying, “We will have to go for a new programmeme with the IMF.”
She emphasised the need to boost investment in the country.
