ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s diplomatic efforts have resulted in a significant breakthrough, with 43 Pakistani citizens set to return home from Sri Lankan jails. Following a high-level meeting with Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner, Admiral (Retd) Ravindra Chandra Srivijay Gunaratne, an agreement was reached to repatriate these individuals promptly.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with Sri Lankan authorities, has been actively pursuing the repatriation process for the past month, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the welfare of Pakistani citizens abroad. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner has pledged full cooperation in facilitating the return of these prisoners.
Expressing gratitude for Sri Lanka’s support, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the longstanding and robust relationship between the two countries. Emphasizing Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors, Naqvi affirmed the commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation.
In addition to the prisoner repatriation initiative, discussions during the meeting also centered on mutual interests and opportunities for further collaboration. Both sides agreed to bolster cooperation, particularly in security and counter-narcotics efforts.
Welcoming the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Mohsin Naqvi underscored the importance of such engagements in advancing bilateral relations. The presence of key officials from relevant departments reflects the government’s concerted efforts to address issues of national significance and promote diplomatic relations.
