ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep disappointment in the Pakistani team following their defeat against India, stating that the lackluster performance necessitates significant changes.
Addressing reporters after the Pakistan vs India match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, Naqvi expressed his dismay, describing the loss against India as disheartening on all fronts.
Despite a commendable effort by the bowlers, who restricted India to 119 runs after winning the toss, Pakistan suffered a humiliating six-run loss.
Naqvi conveyed his understanding of the team dynamics and the underlying causes of their defeats, stating that while minor adjustments were initially considered, the recent poor performance underscores the need for substantial changes.
He emphasized the urgency of enhancing the team’s performance, which currently sits at an unsatisfactory level, describing it as their primary challenge.
Looking ahead to future tournaments, Naqvi highlighted the necessity of building a competitive team for the Champions Trophy 2025, advocating for the inclusion of fresh talent from outside the traditional pool.
Asserting Pakistan’s aspirations to be among the world’s top cricketing nations, Naqvi emphasized the nation’s disappointment with the team’s subpar performance.
Regarding the match specifics, Naqvi criticized Pakistan’s batting display as reckless, lamenting their missed opportunity to secure victory against India.
Despite Mohammad Rizwan’s resilient innings, Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered, ultimately falling short in pursuit of a modest target of 120 runs.
Naqvi acknowledged India’s adept bowling, particularly Jasprit Bumrah’s pivotal contributions, which sealed Pakistan’s fate with figures of 3-14.
The defeat leaves Pakistan with limited options, as they now rely on the outcomes of other matches to determine their chances of advancing to the next stage.
With zero points from two defeats, Pakistan faces an uphill battle to revive their campaign following an earlier upset by the United States in their opening game.
