ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira dismissed media reports suggesting his party’s potential move to join the government, labeling them as unfounded.
Speculations arose after Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal held meetings with Kaira and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti. It was rumored that these discussions aimed at persuading PPP to join the federal cabinet.
Kaira clarified to Geo News that his meeting with the planning minister centered around development projects in his constituency, with no discussion on joining the government.
Meanwhile, sources reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif plans to expand the federal cabinet post-budget and has extended an invitation to PPP to formally join. The PM is reportedly in talks with senior political leaders, including those from PML-N and allied parties, for cabinet inclusion.
Following PPP leadership’s decision, the matter will be presented to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for final consideration. Previously, PPP abstained from joining the PML-N alliance but supported Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister post-elections.
However, recent statements from senior PPP leaders indicate a willingness to join the Punjab government if provided with adequate representation, departing from their earlier stance of only holding constitutional and parliamentary positions.
