ISLAMABAD (PEN) : The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant increase in local oil and gas production, particularly from the Nashpa field in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to ARY News.
A spokesperson from OGDCL reported that the Nashpa field has witnessed an augmentation in its oil and gas reserves. This development has resulted in an additional production of 330 barrels of oil and 77 million cubic feet of gas per day. The surplus gas production has been integrated into the Sui Northern Network, contributing to a reduction in Pakistan’s import bill by approximately $59.85 million.
In a separate announcement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), OGDCL disclosed another achievement: the discovery of gas in Sujawal district, Sindh. The exploratory well, named Nur West # 01, tested at a rate of 1.24 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through a 32/64″ choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 150 pounds per square inch (psi) from the Lower Goru Formation. OGDCL, operating with a 100% stake, conducted drilling and testing to a depth of 2,975 meters, evaluating the discovery as potentially a source of tight gas.
Tight gas, categorized among unconventional resources, refers to natural gas that cannot flow at commercial rates using conventional extraction methods. OGDCL’s ongoing evaluation will determine the future potential and commercial viability of this new gas discovery.
