ISLAMABAD (PEN) : Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other airlines in Pakistan have announced an increase in the federal excise duty (FED) on tickets for international flights as part of the budget for 2024-25. According to the notification, FED on economy and economy plus tickets has been raised by 150%.
Previously, passengers paying Rs5,000 in FED for economy tickets will now pay Rs12,500. Similarly, FED for Club Class tickets to the USA has increased from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000. For flights to destinations in Africa and the Middle East, FED has risen from Rs75,000 to Rs105,000, while tickets to cities in Europe now incur Rs210,000, up from Rs150,000. Flights to Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East see a 40% increase in FED, now set at Rs210,000 by PIA and other airlines.
In other news, PIA recently reduced Umrah fares, offering discounted rates for pilgrims traveling from various cities in Pakistan to Madina and Jeddah. Karachi to Madina costs PKR 76,000 (plus tax) for a round trip, while Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and Sialkot to Madina is priced at PKR 86,000 (plus tax) for a round trip.
