ISLAMABAD (PEN) : China Media Group (CMG) launched the “Dialogue Among Civilizations” exhibition at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday, with representatives and international officials from multiple countries attending the opening ceremony.
CMG President Shen Haixiong delivered a written speech at the event, highlighting the unanimous decision by the 78th UN Assembly to establish June 10 as the International Day of Dialogue Among Civilizations. He said that the resolution fully reflects the widespread resonance of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Global Civilization Initiative within the international community.
China’s permanent representative to the UN, Fu Cong, said at the launch event that the current world faces risks and challenges in achieving peace and development. He emphasized the necessity for nations to engage more actively in dialogues between civilizations now more than ever.
The event included special exhibits showcasing cultural exchanges, as well as cross-cultural concerts and fashion shows, demonstrating the blend and mutual appreciation of diverse cultures. Guests also enjoyed performances by Wynton Marsalis, jazz director at the Lincoln Center, and his band, along with a fashion show illustrating cultural exchanges between the East and the West.
UN’s Under Secretary-General Xu Haoliang, along with UN’s permanent representatives from Armenia, the UK, France and other nations, also attended the event, emphasizing the importance of dialogue among civilizations in addressing the current global challenges. The event showcased the collaborative efforts worldwide to enhance understanding and respect among different cultures.
